ACRYLIC LIQUID POUR PAINTING

When painting with fluid acrylic paints, you pour paints, tip and tilt the canvas, and swirl the paints around. The results are a colorful abstract painting. Different mediums will be used in this class; canvas, wood, and paper.

BARN QUILT BLOCK CLASS

Learn the history of one of America's treasures and make your own 24" by 24" Barn Quilt Block at the class. All the supplies you will need are provided. (If you already have a pattern you are welcome to use it). Please bring snacks and/or lunch with drinks.

BASKET WEAVING

Students will learn the basic techniques of basket weaving by completing a project each time the class meets. This is also an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to renew or hone their weaving skills. Class size is limited, so register early.

Instructor: Helen Haynes, owner of Hobby Haven, has over 25 years of basket weaving experience.
Ages/Grades: Ages 15 and older. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

BEGINNING QUILTING

Students will learn how to cut and piece a quilt by making four placemats from four fat quarters. Bring your own sewing machine (and know how to use it), sewing supplies, cutting mat, cutting ruler, rotary cutter and four fat quarters.

CARDS2U – CARD MAKING WITH DONNA

Donna Wilkins developed a love of scrapbooking while still on active duty with the Air Force, and as her family grew, so did the need for more scrapbooks. In 2015, she began her Cards2U business, and she makes a huge variety of cards from artists like Heartfelt Creations, Elizabeth Crafts, Concord and 9th, Alt E New, and Gina Marie. She now shares her passion with the community by offering card making classes at Hobby Haven.

EMBROIDERY BASICS: CUP OF CHEER

Learn some basic hand embroidery work while creating a Christmas pillow or wall hanging. You will color your fabric and then enhance the pattern with backstitching. Supplies needed include an embroidery hoop, scissors, and embroidery needles. A materials list will be emailed one week prior to class.

MIXED MEDIA CANVAS ART CLASS

Learn how to use several mixed media techniques in each class – stenciling, layering, stamping, various texture applications, gesso basics, decoupage and more. In each class you will create a themed 8" x 16" canvas that is ready to hang in your home or give as a gift. No prior experience is required and all supplies will be provided except pattern papers which allows you to customize to your own preference and décor.

PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS

Learn about aperture, shutter speed, light sensitivity (ISO), and photo composition. Topics will include animal photography, night photography, shooting good photos with cell phones, and capturing moments with people. Students are encouraged to bring one photo that they consider their best work.

Instructor: Michael Sellman has been interested in photography since he was a kid. He took courses in photojournalism and digital photography while studying journalism at Kansas State University. He has been shooting pictures for the Daily Union since 2014 and was awarded second place for best photo in 2016 and first place for best photo in 2017 from the Kansas Press Association.
