BRAIN-TRAINING EXERCISES WITH BRAIN HQ

The Dorothy Bramlage Public Library subscribes to software that provides a series of more than two dozen brain-training exercises that can be done on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Consistently using these exercises may result in better memory, faster processing speed, sharper attention, enhanced navigation, and improved people skills. To experience Brain HQ visit the library web site at www.jclib.org and click on the Brain HQ link. All you need is a Dorothy Bramlage Public Library card in good standing. Those who would like a one-on-one guided tour with a member of the Reference staff can call 785-238-4311 or send an email to reference@jclib.org to make an appointment.


PATHWAYS TO FITNESS

Join Live Well Geary County and multiple community partners to find the pathways to fitness this fall. The day will begin with the Community Race at Junction City High School with multiple distances and heats. Following the race the activities will shift to Playground Park for the awards ceremony, a groundbreaking ceremony for the multigenerational playground, the announcement of a new community policy and information tables and demonstrations by local health and fitness agencies. Healthy snacks will also be served.

Ages/Grades: Ages 5 – Adults for Community Race. All ages welcome at Playground Park activities.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

AA provides fellowship for men and women who can share their experiences and provide support in order that members may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcohol addiction.

CRISIS CENTER, INC.

The Crisis Center provides free, confidential services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Services include 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, safe shelter, emergency transportation, individual and group counseling, advocacy, and community education and training.

FLINT HILLS DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT ALLIANCE

The Alliance is a support group for those affected by depression or bipolar disorder. The monthly meeting formats vary from informational film viewings, to guest presentations, to caring and sharing sessions, to an occasional social event such as a summer picnic or pizza party.

This group provides new and ongoing helpful information to patients who have had Gastric By-Pass surgery or who are thinking about it. It will provide attendees the opportunity to meet the staff, including the surgeons, nurses, dietician and psychologist. Questions and discussions are encouraged between individuals and previous patients who have had the surgery.
