BOWHUNTER EDUCATION

As amended and effective July 1, 2007, Kansas law provides that bowhunter education is not required to purchase a big game archery permit from the State of Kansas. Kansas has adopted the National Bowhunter Education Foundation's (NBEF) program of bowhunter education for those who wish to take it on a voluntary basis. This internationally accepted course teaches bowhunters to be ethical, considerate, humane and safe. Kansas' volunteer instructors are experienced bowhunters certified to present the materials outlined in the NBEF course. NOTE: Other states, provinces and certain federal properties may require a bowhunter education certificate from a state-sponsored or National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF) course in order to bowhunt. It is the responsibility of the hunter to research certification requirements before traveling to other states, provinces or federal properties to hunt.

Registration: To obtain information about courses, visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism web site at kdwpt.state.ks.us or call 620-672-5911.

CLOUD COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE MSF BASIC RIDER COURSES

Those who choose to take a rider education course greatly reduce the likelihood and severity of being involved in a motorcycle accident. What you do before you start a trip goes a long way toward determining whether or not you'll get where you want to go safely – wearing the right gear, becoming familiar with the motorcycle, checking the motorcycle equipment, knowing the traffic laws, and being a responsible rider. This course covers all of the preparation work and provides on-the-bike instructional driving. The training is Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) approved. Upon completion, participants will receive their MSF Safety Certificate as well as their Kansas DE-99. Classes are held in Junction City and we provide the motorcycles!

Ages/Grades: Adults
Time(s):/Day(s): Friday evening and all day on Saturday and Sunday
Place: Geary County Campus – Cloud County Community College

FURHARVESTER EDUCATION

Kansas' Furharvester Education Program was initiated by legislation in 1983. Persons born on or after July 1, 1966 must complete the course before harvesting furbearers in the state on lands other than their own. The purpose of the Furharvester Education Program is to provide instruction concerning the ethical, safe and selective hunting, trapping and handling of furbearing animals and coyotes. The program promotes responsible behavior, emphasizes the importance of wildlife management, laws and regulations, and encourages the safe handling of furharvesting equipment. The current course offers students a comprehensive manual, regulations, and advanced furharvesting publications.

Ages/Grades: Persons born on or after July 1, 1966
Registration: To obtain information about courses, visit the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism web site at kdwpt.state.ks.us or call 620-672-5911.
